Frank Wingold lives in Cologne, where he has been active since 1993 as a bandleader, sideman, and composer. Additionally, he is a professor of jazz guitar at the University of Osnabrück and jazz guitar teacher at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, Netherlands.
He combines classical with jazz and rock-oriented playing and composition techniques on both acoustic and electric guitars to develop his own language of improvisation and composition. For several years, he has specialized in the 7-string guitar.
He has just released his solo CD 'to be frank', which has received enthusiastic reviews and was named 'Record of the Month' in JazzPodium and Gitarre & Bass magazines.

Other main projects include his trio Entangled Music with Robert Landfermann and Jonas Burgwinkel, as well as the duo Gassmann & Wingold.
Other ensembles include Efrat Alony's quartet Hollywood isn't calling, his German-Dutch trio Agog (winner of the Europe Jazz Contest in Brussels and the Dutch Jazz Contest), the Goethe-Institut-supported formation Underkarl and regular concerts with the MusikFabrik Cologne, as well as solo concerts.
